The Primary Benefit of Quitting a Smoking Addiction
The single most beneficial reason to quit smoking is clear to anyone who has ever been chastized or called out about their habit. It just plain bothers folks who don’t smoke; and until you admit to the addiction and stop smoking around them, you will continually be harrassed about it; unless you altogether avoid being around non-smokers.
Interestingly enough, avoidance is often the case and the resulting consequence is isolation. Unless you hang out with people who smoke you’re liable to be alone alot. This is a particularly difficult situation for anyone who is seriously dependent on tobacco, or pot for that matter.
If you’re especially social by nature this will bring about a reocurring issue of loneliness for some and an especially difficult attitude with others. You may feel like your right to choose your own vices is at stake, or at least in conflict with the rights of others to not be subjected to second hand smoke, etc..
This theme is present at the personal and social levels of behavioral interaction among people and at a cultural level as well. Let’s now turn to that aspect of smoking addiction and recovery to begin to take a look at how our society is dealing with this whole thing:
The phenomenon of smoking is characterized by two fundamental and opposing realities: one being practices which are generally accepted in society as legal, and the other being behavior which is not generally accepted and considered illegal in our world.
If you haven’t figured out yet what we’re talking about here; it is mankind’s desire to: “feel good”, and the continual search for a means to achieve that desire. The embodiment of these desires and tendencies is seen in our love affair with two primary substances:
“Tobacco” and “Marijuana”
In recent times, the quality of our relationship with these two substances has taken on a dichotomy best described as both “love” and “hate”. On the one hand, we love to feel good, but on the other hand, when we achieve that goal at the expense of diminishing health, probable physical drug addiction, and/or serious psychological dependencies that further reduce our quality of life; not to mention the combination in the overall negative effects of these conditions on our significant relationships with loved ones…well, you get the picture, and it is often not too pretty, and in the end much less than desireable.
As you can see and likely tell, the combined affects of these two substances, one legal and the other not, have been too often complicated, and continue to be extremely controversial. It is the intent of this conversation to minimize the complexities and reduce the confusion associated with the disorder surrounding “smoking” in our world.
One primary assumption has to be made; that when it comes down to where the rubber meets the road and all that matters is the bottom line – whether you are a “user” or an observer – your deepest, most heart felt desire is to “quit”the abuse, and that is all that really matters.
To “see it quit”, is where we are headed; more so now than ever; and what that means in terms of a greater future for ourselves and our loved ones is largely dependent on the actions we take today.
It is with this understanding that we can formulate our commitment to a bright and happy future without smoking.
It is with this objective in mind that we proceed, both in the delivery of this review site, and for your recovery from smoking.
